Victoria - Sooke - Port Renfrew - Duncan

On a 3 day road trip with my sister and old friend Leith. I have rediscovered this beautiful area of Vancouver island. I know it is not about sailing but I hope you will enjoy it.

From Victoria drive towards Sooke. The drive is not interesting and it he traffic can be terrible. Watch out for rush hours.

Sooke Potholes and east Sooke regional park are worth visiting and very recommended. http://www.ourbc.com/discover_bc/rivers/swimmingholes/sooke_potholes/sooke_potholes.htm

Looking for an amazing gourmet experience? Or hotel? Gift shop?
Right beside a wonderful walk on a spit.

After Sooke drive north towards Port Renfrew.
Good place to stop and buy culinary treats is Shirley Delicious en route.

Sandcut beach is stunning. Walk along the coast for kilometers and enjoy.

The Juan de Fuca marine trail is stunning (47 km long) and possible to hike small stretches of it  that has trail heads along the highway.

We enjoyed the Botany Bay beach.
Beside botanical beach.
There are many others to choose from

Port Renfrew Pub has excellent clam chowder. And salmon burgers - it is all very good. And kind people.

We visited the avatar tree grove with wonderful huge and trees. Go! The gnarly tree was also there

We stopped by The beach at Juan de fuca river bridge
Where the west coast trail begins. Had a wonderful lunch

Today we will drive north east over Fairy lake, Lizard lake and end with my aunt frankie for a late lunch in Duncan.

There are wonderful campsites all along this route. The ones we have seen have only been half full

By the Way. Going South  on the Malahat, you can stop by a beautiful lake Spectacle Lake! Fishing and swimming. Provincial park

A beautiful area that Kath and Leith and I rediscovered.

Last evening in Port McNeill

Goodbye Echo Bay for Barb

Barb is going back to Denmark as planned, Svend stays on until September. This was our sail into Port McNeill in the fog. Quite pretty in a funny way.
Then the sun shone and the mountains were there.
Look behind the boats. Stunning.

Svend's flotte bolig

Glamping (glamourous camping) in Echo Bay. Svend's home for the next month. It is a yurt, overlooking the marina, where he will be a dock hand and help with the pig roast, prime beef and fish and chips.

See more about yurts here. http://www.yurts.com/  and more about Echo Bay Marina here http://pierresbay.com/
